A friend of mine sent this picture to me in an email and said, "I guess these precious people I met in Mexico never heard the teaching about God being pleased by your expensive houses." GF

I remember hearing the (former) pastor mention not shopping in a thrift store. After buying 2 nice infant Christmas dresses years ago at a children's clothing consignment sale (red velveteen Alexis and Bryan brands) for approx. $16 for both, I had decided I enjoyed this type of value shopping! I dismissed his comment, because it was only his opinion. I believe he did not want us to have a "thrift store mentality" - to be able to see ourselves being able to do better - but, I shop and save there (or at a consignment shop or a yard sale when I choose) purely by choice and equate myself to a "virtuous woman" (as I'm causing a financial savings)! There is nothing wrong with doing well and having nice things w/in "your means", or stepping up as God blesses you. I feel for those who may have purchased homes above their means at his "encouragement". It's a shame that people have allowed the word of a man to direct their lives. I feel the pastor thought "he would look better" if we wore expensive clothing and lived in expensive homes. I felt he would be embarrassed if someone saw me in a thrift store and knew I attended his church. There were a number of times I received compliments on my wonderful second-hand clothing while attending that church! If you do it right, no one knows anyway! By the way, GF, I see smiles on the faces of people in this house! God bless them.

"Spread love everywhere you go: First of all in your own home. Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness; kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting." - Mother Teresa "I shall pass through this world but once. Any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." - Henry Drummond "There is nothing the Father desires for you more than that you fall squarely in the lap of His love and never move from that place for the rest of your life." - Jake Colsen "How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant with the weak and the strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these." - George Washington Carver
